Our Mission, Our Legacy

Jim Lewis started Shalimar Fence in 1973 with his four sons. In 1974, he asked his brother-in-law Jim Goldsmith to join him, and it has been their family business ever since.

Shalimar Fence Company has intentionally remained small, focused on quality. Building fences in the Florida heat is a hard business, and it requires a hard work ethic.  As Jim Goldsmith would drive employees to the job site he would say to them “This is our town.  These customers know our families. And we are going to drive by this fence for many years, so we build them to look great and last.”  Every red SHALIMAR FENCE sign is displayed with family pride!

Over the years everyone in the Lewis and Goldsmith family have worked for the company and built fences.  All the wives, children, in-laws, and grandchildren have swung hammers in the Florida heat!  And each employee becomes part of the Shalimar Fence family, many of them staying with the company for decades. Jim Goldsmith led the company from 1974 until 2005 when his son, David Waldron, took over.  In 2018, David was diagnosed with cancer and asked a longtime employee and friend, Edmund Kincaid, to run the crews.  With the recent passing of Jim in 2020, David in 2021, and Jim’s wife Terry this year, Shalimar Fence has been entrusted to Mr. Kincaid to carry on the legacy.
